The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will host a meeting on April 7 about changes to Metro’s Joint Development Policy as part of its ongoing virtual gathering series called “Metro Conversations.”
Metro is in the process of updating its Joint Development Policy to strengthen its response to the Los Angeles County and regional housing affordability crisis. This policy guides how the agency uses land it owns for projects such as affordable housing developments.
The Metro Conversations series is designed to inform and share stories with interested members of the public about the agency that they may not have heard before. The 90-minute session will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Speakers will include:
- Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker, Metro Board Member
- Cecilia Estolano, University of California Board of Regents
- Kristin Fukushima, Little Tokyo Community Council
- Takao Suzuki, Little Tokyo Service Center
- Lynn Katano, Los Angeles County Development Authority
- Carla De Paz, Community Power Collective
- Wells Lawson, LA Metro Joint Development Program
The conversation will be held via Zoom and include live Spanish interpretation. Online participants will be able to share their thoughts and ideas with panelists following the discussion. To register ahead of time, please visit http://bit.ly/JDConversations.

Metro released a Joint Development Program Policy Paper to the Metro Board of Directors in January which outlines potential tools Metro is exploring — such as increasing the percentage of units in joint developments that must meet thresholds for affordability. Metro is seeking feedback on its plans and will return to the Metro Board to recommend an updated policy for adoption.
