Overview
Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around, including better transit service in the San Fernando Valley. This project will upgrade the existing line with grade separations on major streets, better signal priority technology, electronic bus connectivity and a four-quadrant gating system, for a faster trip. The Metro G Line will contribute to Metro’s regional transit network and provide direct connections to more future transit projects.
Status
The Metro G Line Improvements Project is currently in the design and preconstruction services phase, preparing for construction. The project is slated to start major construction in mid-2024 and last for approximately three years. In August 2022, the Metro Board selected the Valley Transit Partners – a Joint Venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Inc., Flatiron West, and Modern Railway Systems as the contractor for this project.
In advance of the start of major construction, the following minor, early work activities are anticipated to take place along the project alignment:
- Undergrounding of overhead utility lines near the future aerial G Line Van Nuys Station
- New power service and removal of poles and overhead wires at the future aerial G Line Sepulveda bridge
- Preconstruction worksite investigations, including geotechnical, potholing, and surveying work activities have been completed, with potholing restoration ongoing
- Property acquisitions are underway to acquire properties that are necessary to build the project
