- Establishes a pipeline for recent college graduates to gain entry-level or journey-level work experience as a Transportation Associate I.

- Identifies a “pool of proven performers” who are eligible to “fill new roles” that fit job skills developed over time within Metro or at another company.

Eligibility
To be considered for ELTP participation, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited college or university within the last two years.
- Obtained a GPA of 2.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) or better.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and eligible to work in the country as determined by the Department of Homeland Security and/or the U.S. Immigration Laws.
Terms and Conditions
- Candidates for ELTP are subject to Metro’s pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check.
- ELTP participants may work up to 40 hours per week.
- No overtime and may not work more than 8 hours per day.
- Pay rate is $23.26 per hour as a Transportation Associate I.
- Metro does not provide paid vacation, holiday pay, or flex time for ELTP participants.
ELTP Participants, referred to Transportation Associates, must adhere to Metro’s dress codes (virtually or in person), and always observe all safety rules and regulations.

How can I become a Transportation Associate II?
The transition from Transportation Associate I to Transportation Associate II is determined by the hiring department after they have successfully completed one year in the program.
Will my status change if I decide to enroll in a post-graduate program?
Your employment status will not change; the three-year rule will still apply.
Is a transportation related major required to apply for ELTP program?
No! However, your major must be related to business or services provided by L.A. Metro.
How will I know that there are future job opportunities?
Metro posts weekly job opportunities; refer to metro.com-beta.com/careers.
Am I guaranteed a full-time position after completing my three-year ELTP assignment?
No! You are not guaranteed a full-time position once you complete ELTP. However, you can apply for any position while participating in the program.
Can I still apply for an ELTP extension after completing the three-year program?
No! You are encouraged to apply for full-time job opportunities within or outside the agency.
Am I obligated to complete the three-year program?
You are not obligated to complete the three-year program. You can leave the program anytime you wish.
Does working 40-hours entitle me to a Metro full-time job?
No! As an ELTP participant, you are not considered a full-time Metro employee, your employment status is temporary.
Can I change departments during my three-year period in ELTP?
Yes, you can if the new department has an ELTP position earmarked in its annual budget.
Can ELTP participants’ relatives or spouses receive dependent badges?
No, the dependent badges are only available to relatives or spouses of full-time employees.
Are ELTP participants qualified for tuition reimbursement?
No! ELTP participants are not qualified for tuition reimbursement.
Can I ask my immediate supervisor for a letter of recommendation while applying for a job outside Metro?
Yes! You may ask your supervisor for a letter of recommendation. However, he /she may or may not agree to provide you with one, because supervisors are not compelled to provide a letter of recommendation.
What is the start payrate for ELTP position?
The starting payrate is $22.69/ hour.
Dos the pay change after I become a TA II.
Yes. The pay rate increases to $24.97/hour.
Does ELTP provide visa sponsorship for foreign candidates?
No! The program does not provide any form of visa assistance or sponsorship for foreign candidates.
