Metro has made it a priority to engage Los Angeles County youths to ensure that they inherit and use a public transit system that works for them. To that end, the agency is creating its first-ever Youth Council to ensure young people are engaged in Metro’s plans, projects, programs and initiatives and to build lifelong riders of its transit system. The council is designed to provide insight into the concerns and hopes of young people and riders, solicit their ideas and perspectives and to provide space for youth leaders to share their voices in transportation decision-making within their communities.
Los Angeles County youths between the ages of 14 and 17 years old will be able to participate on the council, which is expected to begin work in 2022.
