L.A. Metro to Add More Bus Trips and Implement other Service Enhancements Effective Sunday, September 12

Effective Sunday, September 12, 2021, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will implement service changes to restore bus service to pre-pandemic levels to provide greater public transit options for Angelenos returning to school and work. Additional trips will be added to numerous bus lines on weekdays and weekends.

Riders can check for changes to their bus lines with an online tool at metro.net/mybus. A brochure summarizing all bus service changes is also available on the Metro website. For riders who use Metro’s official Transit app, schedule changes will appear by Sept. 12.

Some bus stops have also been removed to improve travel times. All bus stops going out of service will have signs directing riders to nearby stops.

The following bus lines will have additional bus trips added on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays: 2, 4, 16, 33, 45, 55, 70, 76, 92, 110, 117, 152, 162, 165, 169, 206, 212, 224, 242/243, 246, 258, 602 and the 690.

For weekday service, the following bus lines will make additional trips: 10, 14, 28, 40, 51, 53, 78/79, 81, 90, 108, 111, 115, 120, 127, 150, 161, 164, 166, 204, 230, 233, 234, 236, 237, 240, 251, 256, 344, 550, 662, 720, 754, 761, 901 and the 910.

For Saturday and Sunday service, the following bus lines make additional trips: 154, 155 and the 210.

Metro bus line route modifications will be implemented on the following lines:

• Line 2 – No route changes. Some bus stop consolidation.

• Line 4 – To create one high-frequency service for Santa Monica Boulevard between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Lines 4 and 704 combined as new Line 4, with bus stop consolidation.

• Line 16 – New overnight Owl service added.

• Line 18 – No route changes. Only bus stop relocations in Boyle Heights/East LA.

• Line 30 – Line 30 will be rerouted due to Regional Connector construction in the downtown LA Little Tokyo area via 1st Street, Judge John Aiso Street, Temple Street, Vignes Street and 1st Street.

• Line 33 – To create one high-frequency service for Venice Boulevard between downtown LA, Venice and Santa Monica, Lines 33 and 733 will be combined as new Line 33 via bus stop consolidation.

• Line 106 – Line 106 will be extended via Marengo Street, Mission Road, Cesar E Chavez Avenue, Alameda Street, Los Angeles Street, Temple Street and 1st Street in order to service downtown LA (Union Station and Little Tokyo). Service on State Street will be discontinued.

• Line 110 – Weekday service will be restored between Culver City Transit Center and Playa Vista, which was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19.

• Line 152 – Line 152 will extend all trips weekdays and weekends to West Hills Medical Center via Roscoe Boulevard and Fallbrook Avenue.

• Line 154 – Line 154 will have new Saturday/Sunday service added.

• Line 162 – New evening service to West Hills Medical Center. New overnight Owl service helping to replace Line 656 Owl.

• Line 169 – No route changes. New Saturday/Sunday service between Hollywood Burbank Airport and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

• Line 222 – Line 222 will be extended from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Roscoe Boulevard/Tuxford Street via Hollywood Way, Glenoaks Boulevard and Tuxford Street. The return trip will be via Roscoe, Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Strathern Street, Lankershim Boulevard, Tuxford, Glenoaks and Hollywood Way to Hollywood Burbank Airport. This replaces service that was previously part of Line 152 and the Sun Valley 622 shuttle. Note: the northbound route will serve the Vine Street/Hollywood Boulevard stop.

• Line 224 – New overnight Owl service will replace Line 656 Owl between Hollywood and North Hollywood.

• Line 242 /243 – Lines 242 & 243 will have more frequent service weekdays and Saturdays, plus new Sunday service on both Tampa Avenue (Line 242) and Winnetka Avenue (Line 243) between Ventura Boulevard and Devonshire Street. Under-used service north of Devonshire Street to Porter Ranch will be replaced by new Metro Micro (rideshare on-demand) service. Buses will loop via northbound Line 242 to southbound Line 243 or northbound Line 243 to southbound Line 242 via Devonshire Street.

• Line 258 – No route changes. New Saturday/Sunday service will be added.

• Line 550 – No route changes south of Harbor Gateway Transit Center. Weekday peak period service between Harbor Gateway Transit Center and USC is restored (previously suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19).

• Line 602 – No route changes. Some bus stop consolidation.

• Line 656 – Line 656 overnight Owl service will be replaced by new Lines 162 and 224 overnight Owl services.

• Line 690 – Additional late-night trips will be added between Sylmar Station and Olive View Medical Center.

• Line 704 – Line 704 is merged with Line 4 as new Line 4 between downtown LA, Westwood and Santa Monica via Santa Monica Boulevard, with bus stop consolidation. Please note Line 4 does not travel to Union Station.

• Line 733 – Line 733 is merged with Line 33 as new Line 33 between downtown LA, Venice and Santa Monica via Venice Boulevard, with bus stop consolidation.

• Line 854 – Line 854 Gold Line Bus Bridge will be rerouted due to Regional Connector construction in the downtown LA Little Tokyo area via 1st Street, Judge John Aiso Street, Temple Street, Vignes Street and 1st Street.

In addition to bus route changes, Metro will improve Metro Rail service on the B Line (Red) and D Line (Purple) during weekday peak periods, increasing the frequency of trains from 12 to every 10 minutes.

The bus changes are part of Metro’s NextGen Bus Plan to make service more frequent and reliable for more riders. The implementation of NextGen, the first overhaul of Metro’s vast bus system in more than 25 years, began last December and will conclude this coming December.
