How to Park, Store and Get Around on Bikes
Whether you’re getting around using Metro Bike Share or your own bike, we’ve got cyclists covered.
Bike Share
Metro Bike Share makes bikes available 24/7, 365 days a year in Downtown LA, Central LA, Koreatown, Hollywood, North Hollywood and on the Westside. Metro Bike Share offers convenient round-the-clock access to a fleet of Classic and Electric bicycles.
Bike Racks
All Metro buses have two or more racks located on the outside front of the bus to store your bike while you ride. If the bike racks on a bus or train are full, please wait for the next one. Bike racks are also available at each station.
Bike Hub
Parking your bike at Metro bike hub is safe and easy. Lock your bike and accessories on a rack or in a locker in a controlled-access location. Your registered TAP card is your key card.
Bike Lockers
Big improvements are coming soon to the Metro Bike Locker Program! As we prepare to roll out the update, rentals and renewals will be temporarily unavailable at select stations.
Adopt a Bike
Thousands of unclaimed bikes are sent to Metro’s lost and found every year. These bicycles are left on Metro’s bus and rail systems and properties. Now with Metro Adopt A Bike, bikes go back into the hands of the community and those most in need.
CicLAvia
CicLAvia catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free street events. CicLAvia engages with people to transform our relationship with our communities and with each other.
Open Streets
The City of Los Angeles partners with CicLAvia to temporarily transform the city’s most iconic and beloved streets into car-free public places to bike, walk, skate, roll and play.

Bikes on Bus
Bikes can be brought onto buses and trains if space is available. Metro Bike Share bikes are not allowed on buses or trains. Keep in mind the rules for bikes on Metro Bus:
- Arrive at the stop early and wait on the sidewalk.
- Remove all loose items not attached to your bike, for example bags on handle bars, helmets, lights.
- Locking your bike to the bus rack is not allowed. For extra security, you can lock your wheel to the frame before the bus arrives.
- You are responsible for loading and unloading your bicycle. Wait until the bus is fully stopped before loading your bike. Always approach the bus from the sidewalk.
- Sit or stand near the front of the bus to watch your bicycle during your trip.
- Just before your stop, tell the bus operator that you will be getting your bike from the rack and exit through the front door.
- Never try to retrieve something that rolls under the bus.
- Motorized bicycles or any bicycle over 55 pounds cannot be accommodated on Metro bus bike racks. Folding bikes with 20-inch or smaller wheels can be taken on board. Make sure your bike is folded and stored under a rear seat so as not to block aisles and doorways. Motorized folding bikes are not allowed.
Bikes on the Train
All Metro trains have a designated area for bicycles — look for the doors marked with the yellow sign. Metro Bike Share bikes are not allowed on buses or trains. Remember the rules for bikes on Metro Rail:
- Follow ADA-accessible routes to find elevators and wider, wheelchair-accessible gates, to safely bring your bike in and out of stations.
- Always walk your bike through stations and on train platforms.
- Enter at doors marked with the yellow sign on the right.
- Avoid parking your bicycle behind operator’s cabin lead car.
- Always keep doors and aisles clear, and be courteous to other passengers.
- Give priority to wheelchair passengers in designated areas.
- Always stand with your bike in the designated open area on board the train.
- Use elevators or stairs to enter and exit the station. Bikes are not allowed on escalators.
- Folding bikes are encouraged and allowed on board. Make sure it is properly folded.
- Electric bicycles are allowed if they are the size of a regular bike and are subject to safety inspection by security personnel. Fuel powered, 3-wheeled, tandem, recumbent and over 6-foot long bicycles, as well as all mopeds and trailers, are not allowed. Failure to obey these rules may result in a citation; ref. PC 640 (b) (9) (A).
